We just saw the movie Reagan. I have to say it was just amazing. They'll never give him an award, but Dennis Quaid was masterful in his performance. The events, scenes, dialog, and timing of the movie were completely spot on. The other actors were amazing as well.
The Berlin wall fell 35 years ago on November 9, 1989. I remember it well. Sometimes I wonder if it is even taught in school today? If schools teach how close we were to nuclear war and how one man had the strength to stand up and tell Mr. Gorbachev to "Tear Down This Wall!"
A short 35 years later, we again have a choice. A choice between Freedom and socialism -->Communism. This time, however, it is much closer to home.
In 1964, Mr. Reagan gave a speech which was entitled "A time for Choosing".... It was one of the great speeches in a life full of them.
In that speech he quoted Winston Churchill, "The destiny of man is not measured by material computations. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we're spirits - not animals." And he said, "There's something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."
And Mr. Reagan said:
You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.
We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.
This is OUR choice in November 2024. I pray that we as a nation make the correct one.
