I'll preface this review by saying that I love the 2009 movie version of this story with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. Unfortunately, the intense chemistry of the actors in the movie is really lacking between Rose Leslie and Theo James. I actually quite like both Leslie and James as actors, but together they aren't convincing as a star-crossed couple.
The style that the show has chosen for the time travel element and conveying the character's perspective is quite off as well. I get that we are living in a reality tv age and I guess the creators wanted to capitalize on that, but the confessional videos cheapen the emotional impact of the story. Having so many different versions of Henry at the same event was overdone as well. At one point I said to myself "okay, we get it. It's a gravitational pull!" We don't need to simultaneously see him at 8 and 28 and 26 and 31 and 34, ad nauseam to understand that.
I'm going to take this one off my watch list. However, if you have not seen the movie version this will probably be enjoyable.
