I haven't even made it through the first season. I've just finished reading the books, and after the 3rd book did I realize I was a fan. I knew there was a show and but I wanted to read the books first before I watched the show and ruined my imagination of the characters I was reading. I was excited to watch the show, and see things maybe I COULD have missed in the book, to actually hear the Gaelic language. Diana Gabaldon is an amazing writer. The books are so well written, and the character development - impeccable. I mean don't get me wrong, I wasn't quite a fan of Roger and Brianna's character, but the overall writing of the books, were SO much fun to read. I loved them... But the show? I am HIGHLY disappointed. I had to turn it off halfway through the first season. I was able to let some things go, I knew that the show will NEVER be as good as the book. But, I just got to the point where in EVERY episode, I was saying things like, "That didn't happen..." "That didn't happen like that..." "What happened to that part..." "They didn't say it that like that..." "They didn't look like that..." . Now, really, I DO understand that there would be changes in the show. But, EVERY episode. THROUGHOUT the episode, is something else. It's like NOONE on that show read the books. And to know that Diana Gabaldon had a hand in the making of this show...
If you haven't read the books, then you might like the show if you like watching pornography, rape, licentious acts... At least the books had tact. And was conducive to the storyline and plot.
If you were a fan of the books, you will NOT like the show. If you do like show and have also read the books. I implore to read the books again, and watch this. Nothing is right. I was SORELY disappointed. I've read other reviews, and I'm glad I didn't make it to the part of Jack Randall's torture of Jaime. These reviews, call it grotesque, and some say that they got physically sick watching it... So, I'm going to pick up the books again for a reread, and put away these disappointed feelings. And forget that this show even exists. I wouldn't even give it 1 star if I had the option.
