I really enjoyed the story to wrap up the show the last kingdom, a great end to a show I’ve personally loved for years now. There may have have been some unnecessary changes to the storyline but knowing the real aethelstan didn’t have children I suppose this is why they chose that they could go down this route for inclusivity and to connect with modern audiences but it delineates from historicity, the openness at least about this topic in the film maybe only slightly broke immersion. Although it didn’t have to take that route it was enjoyable and this aspect didn’t really play that big of a part anyway in that it ruined anything for me it was fine, it didn’t and it didn’t feel too forced or patronising. I would watch this if you are a last kingdom fan you will not be disappointed. I admit I was worried how you could wrap up the show in 2 hours but but it pulled it out of the bag with this finale and the cast and crew can all be proud of this. That ending was epic, I won’t spoil but I had to work out what was going on and when I realised I was stunned, well played again not making what was happening obvious had a big impact. Well done to the team for giving us fans the ending we wanted to a beloved show and I can’t overstate just how great the cast for this show are, they are that good.
