I went with a lot of expectations to this movie. I expected it to be a good movie. But, to be honest the movie is not that great. At the crux of it, it was a good story of how much a son loved his father. That's it - the only scene that was really good in this movie was the last scene between the son and the father. The masculinity, sexuality, and violence was a force-fit. I mean there are better ways to show the nuances of a complex father-son story. The point is this time Mr. Vanga got it wrong in my point of view. I genuinely felt really good after looking at the trailer and went on first day itself, but it isn't that great a movie. At best I will say it is average, and that too only because of Ranbir Kapoor's stellar performance. He is the saving grace to this movie. Sad for all the hype. Rashmika's performance was really bad in my view. There was a scene when she talks to Ranvijay about him having sex with the other girl - that scene was really really bad.
There is no problem with the violence in the film, I felt it seemed a bit force-fitted - it isn't flowing very well. I think the first half was good, but the second half except for the last scene sucked big time. I didn't understand what was the point of some scenes of Bobby Deol at all - like they were just pointless. And, finally after so much hype Bobby just does a fight, nothing else. So, that was a bit disappointing.
I will say the first half was good and the build-up was good too. For some reason, nothing made much sense in the second half. I am giving two stars because the first half was good and the second half didn't make any sense to me and it spoiled the overall feel of the movie.
To be very honest, it looked to me like the director or the writer has first decided what violence, sexuality, and masculinity to show first and then he decided to put a weak story around it just to make it a movie. For example, there is a scene where he asks the heroine to open his top in front of a maid. I didn't get the point of it. Another example is: he talks about women crying about changing pads for 3 days whereas a real man can change pads 20 times in a day. Again, what's the point of it! Your movie is about male vs. female or it is about a story of father and son - it is not clear.
The only reason why I rated 2 is because of Ranbir's performance, just outstanding!
