I watched Free Solo not long before it won the Academy Award this year. I echo previous viewers who say Dawn Wall is a far superior story. It plumbed the depths of the other major characters, not just of Tommy Caldwell, who turns out to be a mensch. On a special note, my family watched this film in our Oakhurst rental house the night before we entered Yosemite Valley. It made the viewing of El Capitan the next day even more meaningful. Indeed, Yosemite is one of the most beautiful, awe-inspiring gems in America.
