If I could give this 0 stars I would. I thought it may be good due to Emma Thompson being in it. I did however notice that Miss Honey, is in fact a different race than portrayed in the 1996 Matilda. Now, it's understandable that this is a remake, that it's a musical... However, if you look at the artwork in the book though you can clearly tell that she doesn't have dreadlocks, curly hair or anything like that. It's just plain straight hair that looks to be tied up in a ponytail. That being said, you could imply that she is definitely NOT a dark skin toned person or anything like that. I noticed that Matilda's backstory is completely gone and it doesn't do a good job of explaining how she got her powers in the first place. Also, what is it with the uniforms? In the illistrations in the book and in the movie in 96, the kids aren't wearing any uniforms at all. It's like there's not only dread in that respect, but there's a lot of dread in a lot of the other things that are going on in the musical. The musical is not good compared to the 1996 movie and the musical is't good compared to the book. The director could have made something totally different and it definitely would have been better than this. Do not reccomend watching it.

I typically don't post reviews for movies but I think this one deserves it. I can't tell you all how much this movie sucks. All of the unanswered questions, all of the dumb songs... The whole storyline of the movie was decent but ONLY if it was a stand-alone my little pony movie. What happened here is the writers seemed to want to continue the story from the my little pony friendship is magic series but they didn't know how to actually continue it, and quite possibly didn't even watch the friendship is magic series to see how to tie it all in together seamlessly so there's no unanswered questions. Questions like: If there's so much hatred and fighting, where are the windigos and snow? Why is it that Sunny has wings and a horn at the end of the movie but then when you look at the my little pony make your mark series that not all of the episodes have come out yet, it looks like her wings and horn have somehow disappeared into thin air? What happened to Twilight Sparkle and the rest of her friends? What happened to princesses Cadence, Luna, and Celestia? How did all of the pegasi have access to all of this new technology, how did they get to that point? What happened to the original lands of Canterlot, Ponyville, etc.? There's many more on top of that I'm sure. Not going to lie I skipped over a good chunk of the movie. I watched some parts that seemed important but skipped all of the songs because none of them were very catchy, all of them were kind of annoying in one way or another because of how the voice actors were singing... I also think that the storyline could have been explained faster than it was. It was clear at the beginning who all was going to be a protagonist and an antagonist. Sprout at the beginning was clearly going to be the antagonist due to the simple fact of them playing that game when they were younger and him saying that the unicorns were going to fry brains and start zapping the other ponies with horn lazers. Hitch was clearly going to be a protagonist along with Sunny because Hitch was just being supportive when Sunny wanted to play the game with the pony figurines. How was it that Sunny's dad knew about Twilight and her friends being friends and everything being all good? Nothing about this movie makes sense at all aside from Sunny wanting to find some unicorn and pegasus friends. You can skip over a lot of this movie and still know what's happening. Not worth watching. The artwork at the very beginning of the movie is 2D, but the style in which it was drawn isn't the same and makes the ponies faces look more chubby than they did in the friendship is magic series. The friendship is magic series is way better than this 3D animated movie.
