It felt like a forced saturday morning cartoon for most of the movie. I almost said episode because I wish it was so I could skip the cheese factor of awkward hard to watch parts. The villain was ok, but felt like he was trying to hard to copy Gru and I felt like they could have done so much more with his cockroach theme. I thought they were gonna go for an oggie boogie style villain when he was first introduced and thay would have been an awesome play on being similar to Gru, which makes sense since they grew up together, but they really didnt let the roaches shine as well as they could have. The "family" sections were cheesy and hard to watch and was kinda lacking in a lot of ways. I did love Poppy though. I feel like she was an awesome co villain who was pretty well written and was definitely a breath of fresh air in her parts of the story. The minions were definitely on brand and I loves watching thier chaos when brit dude was trying so hard to wrangle the cat herd and making fun of thier 2 xmen, 2 of the fantastic 4, and flying cone head.
