This show is brilliant and rich with detail. From the castles to the fields it’s beautifully filmed. The actors are stunning and portray a lot of emotional depth
Watching it highlights how women have been caged for centuries. Despite Queen Charlottes wealth and power she’s been forced into a situation she doesn’t want to be in. I believe she has a love for the king, but the weight of all the expectations on her is quite heavy. Same for Lady Danbury. From having to be groomed from an early age to be an old man’s wife to losing a title and money after his death. Women here are treated like merely pretty objects
The expectation and roles women have, and still have to fill in this patriarchy is astounding. As someone who works in a male dominated field, I related to the show on this level.
I believe king George is a gentle and sensitive soul, that had the same weight on his shoulders. Which ultimately led to his mental decline.
It goes to show to even surrounded by beautiful things, doesn’t mean one will be happy.
