Initially, I am biased when it comes to deciding the big question: Is their new album just as good or better than their previous albums?
Here’s the thing: I absolutely love their older albums, and listening to this new one just doesn’t quite put me in the same spot the others do. Songs like “Sweet”, “Apocalypse”, and “Cry.” for example put me in a state of calm and I can imagine myself taking a walk through a misty forest each time. Perhaps the disconnect comes from the songs in X’s being less catchy than the previous ones.
Nonetheless, I’ll still say that this X’s album is great. It delivers what they strive to achieve: storytelling. Their honesty pushes through decently here, and the flow of beats throughout the album remain a staple.
I’ll be seeing their world tour concert here soon (2024). I do hope they play both their new songs and their old ones. In all honesty, I would see it difficult for them to not at least play their top hits of 2023-2024 (“Apocalypse”, “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt you Baby”, “Sunsetz”). I’m really excited to see them!
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed their new album. :)
