Classier and more elegant than these kinds of things usually are. The script skips a few beats that would have made the teenaged son's behavior make more sense, but erratic behavior in a crisis isn't so strange for 15 year olds. It's impressive that there are only 4 important characters reacting to an outlandish situation with two of them being child actors and the performances still feel grounded and realistic.

This one plays the hits. Our band of not totally likable victims are annoying British teens, so it's got that going for it. Fun to watch them die, innit? You know what this is already. And if not, go enjoy the original.

It's no fun when a high concept comedy doesn't take itself seriously enough to let any jokes land. Eagerness to please is poison to the whole endeavor. It's like a bad improv sketch that needed a blackout after 10 minutes got stretched out to 90. The actors are trying, the soundtrack is aggressively signaling "fun", but it feels like the tone was lifted right out of a sorta bad episode of the Office.

Earnest but blessedly free of treacle (looking at you, Abbott Elementary), ET is earlier than most to the growing exhaustion with culture wars and the self absorbed crazies who thrive in them. Centrism with bite and heart.
