For 02 being a lackluster and divisive season of the show, it made sense to focus on a new character. Unlike in tri with Mei, I feel like they had better success with telling Lui's story--a tragic one with some dark moments (happy Halloween, y'all). It's not the most cohesive, nor is it well-paced, but they hit the nostalgia just right with reanimated evolution sequences and remastered insert songs. For me, that's the reason I went to see it. Considering how the 02 TV series ended, it's too ambitious to expect this movie to repair how jarring it was. TL;DR: Push nostalgia button, receive bacon. Mission accomplished, and if you liked Ghost Game, there's a special scene for you.
