This is a good updated version of the book. When Barrie wrote the book growing up for girls meant learning to be being feminine and spending your life getting married being just a wife and mother raising kids. Wendy saw that growing up could also be an adventure we would miss.
I enjoyed the movie because it did not just mimic the animated movie of the 50s. It put insight into why Peter was who he was and why Hook was so hateful to Peter.
As for the casting, I thought it was good. I had no problem seeing that girls could feel insecure of growing up just like boys. Maybe there was not as much interaction of the children in Neverland as the other movies about Peter Pan and this movie did not show the characters to be funny. It did not the punch lines . If that is how people want to see the movie they will like the cartoon/animated version and the Hook version better.
