When possible, I endeavor to refrain from romantic movies. It's not that I'm averse to romantic tales; rather, I find the majority of romantic comedies to be somewhat unsatisfying and one-dimensional. Although I think love is wonderful, a simple love tale isn't generally enough to make me want to see a movie.
However, once in a while, a movie comes along that makes us reevaluate everything. The film "About Time" fits that description. This film is more than simply a love tale or family drama; it's a movie about living. It features a wide range of couples and pairings beyond the standard for romantic comedies. The plot is inspiring, the performances are superb, and there are plenty of laughs. Despite the time-travelling gimmick, the narrative is about the bond between Tim and his dad, and about the beautiful love between Tim & Mary, without being too mushy or emotional. The film's moral, which was to live each day as if it were your last, was conveyed well without coming off as preachy. The score was well-suited to the picture, and the songs weren't overplayed during the more dramatic sequences. Rachel and Domhnall's connection on screen is believable enough to make us root for them as a couple. On the other side, the bond between Domhnall and Bill as father and son is palpable throughout the film, and the audience is sure to experience some strong emotions as they watch them interact. If one do decide to watch this, there is one thing they must do: disregard discrepancies as irrelevant. And don't  attempt to make sense of it. If one continue down this path, one will encounter more problems with the underlying reasoning than they can handle. Of course, the performers are able to divert attention most of the time - excellent job by everyone! But there will be occasions when one may find themselves thinking: Seriously? Â
But honestly if you can resist the logical criticism and procrastinate your nurtured Rom-Com mindset, you will undoubtedly end up favoring yourself with a lovely uplifting transcending cinematic experience.
