As a Show just on its own, it’s super fun. The cast is likable and relatable and it’s an easy show to watch. It’s funny, it’s captivating, and it keeps you guessing.
***But***
If you are watching this show to witness a manifestation of your imagination from reading Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent (and semi Sarah Linton) series, you will be severely disappointed. It basically shares the name of (some of) the characters in the series. And that’s about it. You see the parallel in some of her books storylines, but I hate to see an entire book reduced to a 40 minute episode. Or another 40 minute reduced book episode, where very basic details are kept and everything else is altered. And at least ONE VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTER is left out. It remains to be seen if they’ll be added later on, once (eh hem ANGIE) has more storyline built around them. I’ve been saying forever that I had hoped Will Trent would have turned into a show or series, but I feel they did not do enough justice. If the effort they put into pieces of her was put into this series it could have been so great. But it’s more of a fun chintzy procedural crime drama.
So, if you like procedural crime dramedies, watch the show. It’s great. But if you’re a Karin slaughter fan hoping to see her series turned into a fantasy come alive, you’ll be disappointed. And this is from a fan who loves movie/show adaptations despite creative differences between the book and the film.
