A very clever, lighthearted approach to the concept of a digital afterlife, but gains gravitas with emotional depth, intrigue, mystery and commentary over artificial intelligence. Actress Andy Allo is superbly cast as someone who longs for connection in equal measure to her own, but ultimately falls for someone beyond her grasp. The unlikely situation creates superb tension akin to love letters written by generations long ago, perhaps made even greater by the convenience of digital connectivity, yet never together.
Alas, the overtly capitalist backdrop becomes a statement on the vacuous nature of society, but this serves to cement the importance of authenticity and emotion in our lives. The digital afterlife may not be the perfect, but we might find that "magic" is a distinctly human expression that should be revered. I'm definitely looking forward to the next season.
