Scattered plot, two different homicides in two American cities with Jury and Melrose investigating when asked to do so by friends in England. Wiggins is along as well but disappears from the narrative for long stretches in which sad female friends of the victims engage in long conversations with Jury or Melrose. Edgar Allen Poe is thrown in the mix as well. Glacial plot with lots of verbiage. Avoid.

Confusing. Too many characters. Subplot not resolved (e.g. Joe and his shady dealings or Lucy's health issues). All characters are constantly over the top angry. Dragged in many places.
