This is a good film with a solid script and some fine performances especially by Izzard and of course Dench, whilst the "look and feel" of the film are very good you can't help but feel at times a certain lack of depth to the narrative and a failure to really get the viewer on the edge of seat despite ample opportunities to do so. At a guess the director is the weak link here as it seems they fail to get the max out of both the script and the actors. As mentioned Izzard puts in a fine performance but his character is aching to have a bit more of a "swashbuckling" feel and is too subdued at key moments in the film. Notwithstanding those negatives still a decent watch for a Sunday afternoon and the best war drama to come along in recent years.
