***SPOILERS*** I have a plethora of issues with this book, but one that seriously irks me is how often we hear about Asheville. Does the author know there are other towns in North Carolina? And especially ones much closer to the beach? (The city of Raleigh comes to mind. . .) You can’t convince me that it was SO common in the 60s to make that trek. And honestly, the end of the book simply proves that Kya is more than likely psychotic. Back and forth trips to Greenville in the same night, murder, and then pretend nothing happened? You have no idea if she lured him there or if he attacked her (which I would have been much more on her side, in that instance) - but given her fascination with bugs, I’m sure she lured him. I feel like there was so much potential with this story line, and it simply fell flat. The movie wasn’t much better. It’s definitely not worth the hype, in my opinion. As someone who has to choose books carefully because of limited available time to read (three small kids here) - I wish I could unread this one.
