I'm so glad they made a documentary about this! I was sexually assaulted and my assaulter admitted it and told the same story I told. That's what the investigator told me. The first court date he said he didn't have a lawyer and wanted time to get one so they granted him time and didn't give me a second court date and said that it wasn't set yet. I went to the second and the officer I had told what happened too had said to him while waiting he looked directly at me and said "you're only human" talking to my assaulter. I felt disgusting and small, like I meant nothing to the officer or anyone. Again that court date he said he needed time for a lawyer and was given it. Again I was never given another court date and he was also going through a custody hearing so the publicity of it was taken away. I continued calling to figure out when the next court date would be but they kept saying it wasn't set and they would let me know. They never let me know. They had it without me there. Because I wasn't there he got away with it. Because he was going through a custody hearing he would have lost custody of his daughter so my case was thrown away. From beginning to end I was treated like I was guilty of something and was treated like trash. Victims are treated like this. I meant nothing to them and having ptsd for the rest of my life is OK to them. He did offend again and the person he assaulted was a minor.
