Spoilers ahead! I did not really like this movie. - It felt incredibly rushed, this should have been a series not a two hour movie - What they did to Athelstan is true a shame. He kills his brother, Aldhelm and loads of innocent people because his boyfriend says so. The Athelstan in series 5 is just and loyal and would never ever do such a thing. The explanation for these actions was flimsy. It was so out of character it didn't make sense and made it unbelievable. - the death of Aldhelm was completely unnecessary to me. It was also not a death honouring this character. It came across to me a bit like the directors wanted to kill off an important character just because. - At the end Uthred calls Athelstan the right king to unite England. Ok, never mind that he killed his brother and Aldhelm etc?
