It's been five months since I finished this game, and it still haunts me. The first Last of Us was my favorite game of all time, until this one came out and blew it out of the water. It's challenging, fun, heartbreaking, tender, and troubling in turns, but most of all, it's the most human game I've ever played. The controversy around it is largely rooted in anti-LGBTQ bigotry, although it's understandable why some might not like how dark the game is, and that's valid. To me, it struck the perfect balance, and I loved every character, even the ones that are hard to love.
