This was a sub-par transformers film and I have a couple of issues with it. SPOILERS!
1. The main characters were weak, lacked charisma and humour, compared to Sam and Mikaela, there was no heart between any of the human characters. The subplot between Noah and his brother was a good idea yet it lacked depth and true sorrow since it was abiut his brother being ill. This film just proves how good Michael Bay was with choosing his actors and creating a charismatic group of memorable characters.
2. Optimus Prime felt far from his original self, he lacked his usual wisdom and motive speeches, his, humility, calmness and ingenuity. He also seemed very lost with no plan, as if he wasnt thinking clearly, he didnt act like the leader we know and love. Primal seemed the far wiser and mature autobot, Prime was closer to Ironhide than his original self, being angry, over aggressive does not suit prime in the slightest, poor portrayal.
3. I liked the introduction of Mirrage, he is a memorable character, but the audience wanted more bumblebee than what we got, Mirrage's bond with Noah was Ok, but again, it's not even close to the bond between Bumblebee and Sam. Although Bees intro at the end was pretty cool, that was a stand out moment to be fair
4. The introduction to the autobots felt rushed and repetitive, it was trying to copy Bays intro with 100x less drama and build up, it was as simple as them transforming and showing up, there was no tension or excitement, there was no big reveal. It was sudden and unexpected.
5. The villian was similar to Lockdown, 0 history, came out of no where, forcing a plot of why he's here, 0 relationship/correlation with the humans, like Megatron and Sam's grandfather. It was like "chuck a random villian in with 0 backstory and see what happens" very lazy.
6. No depth to overall story. It was just a pure action movie, no solid past motive, no true solid relationship between any of the autobots, it was just like the existed within their own personal narrative, there was no "team" it was more like they were fighting eachtohers motives and beliefs like children. Also the CGI wasn't even close as convincing as Bays films, might as well made it an animated movie.
3/10 film. Disappointing
