Well written, but mediocre directing and editing (based on the 3 eps currently available). Every joke feels fresh enough, even if there are dependable tropes aplenty, but I'm jarred and miffed by some of the delivery and timing afforded by the edit. These so far feel like Pilots - just missing that little glimmer of harder work to let the material shine.
The cast are great, with some shining moments from the supporting roles that feel like they should have been more than what we got from them so far (the Principal comes to mind).
It's no secret that Bubbins is a 70s-phile himself - but some of the production work done to give it a 70s sitcom feels, comes off like a student's homework assignment to recreate old-feel. One for the production meetings going forward to figure out what this is, pick a style, and nail it.
Deserves a second series, and I'm very much enjoying it, with genuine laughs not one-a-minute but frequent enough; but given a bit more love, this could be a timeless classic
