In short it is an incredibly disturbing film whose messaging can clearly be interpreted in many different ways. To view it through a feminist lens I think would be taking it too far - the story revolves around seeking free will in an environment which is abusive and unforgiving. It is not a love story nor is it inspiring but rather depicts the harsh reality of a woman with the mind of a child who is sexually abused beyond her own comprehension and learns to use it to her advantage.
Don’t bring your kids. Approach it from a lens of curiosity and cinematic appreciation. Also if you have any prior history of sexual trauma or abuse this one’s not for you.
