Despite it seems impossible to figure out if all of this is a mix of reality and fantasy, like a movie before his eyes before he dies, or just how he constantly sees reality, it really conveys the paranoia and anxiety that are in Beau's head, and it seems to hint that all of it is caused by an upbringing with his mother that left him without life skills and in constant fear of disappointing her. Everything seems to be a test to see him deemed a bad son by his mother. I missed some more context to compare what's really happening with what's in his head, but I guess the point is just to show his perspective, because people suffering from these mental/emotional disorders don't really have another perspective.
