It tried to be deep like “inside out” and make the case for Bad Luck being necessary just like Sadness was in Inside Out. but missed by a mile. Made me want to rewatch Inside Out, the cleverest of animated movies.

The preview emphasized the space exploration aspect and promised a kid who liked science, but it ended up being a bubble gum-colored derivative love story. The songs reminded me of the Papa song from the movie Yentl. The acceptance of the stepmother plot was nice, but I was expecting some science.
