Many of the episodes present interesting, controversial issues which are well presented in the lawyer-client discussions and in the courtroom. The casting is also impressive. Episodes feature many actors who became well known years later or, like the episode with Lillian Gish, ones who had been a well established star. It is also interesting to note the frequent use of tight close ups on the actors and the lack of extensive or expensive sets (Remember than TV screens were much smaller back in the 1960s and they did not waste money on elaborate sets.)

The pilot does not do justice to the back story or the humanity of the characters. The pressures and conflicts are what are up front and present. I almost stopped watching after episode 1. But if you give the show a few episodes, we begin to see what brought things about and get to see more about who each character is (beyond the clash of all the conflicts and changes in the restaurant. It is well done (and better than the pilot episode reveals it will be).
