The movie may not hold up as well with scenes as compared to today's cinematography, but you have to remember that today's movies were built on movies like Red Dawn (1984). This movie I watched as a kid and it made me feel things, and think back then. That was a good movie back in the 80's. Maybe it was also the atmosphere of the times in the 80's, with the cold war still looming.
When I recently re-watched this, the movie felt realistic still. The acting is still watchable. The story makes good points and things I didn't notice as a early teenager, I noticed now that I am an adult. Movies today tend to feel to grandiose, this movie felt subtle but closer to real. It made you think about all you would lose, yet you could still fight.
