This film’s only saving grace was the typically unpredictable, disturbing performance from Nicholas Cage. Other than that, Longlegs bites off more concept than it can chew, and ends up spitting it back out in a choppy, non-linear fashion, with ambiguity pervasive throughout.
I left the theater confused, and overall unattached to any of the main characters. Critics had been raving about Longlegs being akin to Silence of the Lambs, but it was far removed. What should have simply been a cat & mouse investigative thriller turned into a supernatural, albeit senseless horror movie where Satan as the villain was overshadowed by Cage’s character, and rightfully so. The film would have done better sticking to the natural rather than integrating the devil’s possessed dolls as the driving force of this thriller.
