G Salmun

Hands down one of the best films I have seen in a long, long time. Truly unique aesthetic to the film, it manages to be simultaneously beautiful, comedic, and tragic all at once. Everything feels perfectly complete in this film and the tempo is flawless. This is about as flawless as you can get in filmmaking, I will be rewatching this movie for years to come

This is a beautifully heart-crushing story supported by incredibly strong acting performances and cinematography. The saddest yet most poignant reality of this series, is that these kinds of stories play out in real life. The criminal justice system in our country has a tendency of turning non-violent individuals (some of which are legitimately not guilty of any crime) into individuals who have to commit unspeakable violent acts just to stay alive in the system they've been thrusted into. This show hasn't gotten too much recognition because it is only 1 season and people want to binge stuff nowadays with a concrete ending to the stories they're told. However, this is really HBO at it's finest. A good HBO show, like The Wire or The Sopranos, is brilliant because of how authentically these shows mimicked reality. The Night Of will surely never get as much recognition as those aforementioned classics, but from my perspective the quality of this show is up there with the HBO greats.
