A bit "white washed" tbh. Taoist and Buddhist concepts almost non existent. The concept of Tripitaka as a girl was abit much. The original stories and monkey King cheekiness and playfulness was missing. Sandy and Pigsy back story and antagonism would have been good additions. Also the romance tension being built up shows total lack of understanding of Sun Wukong extension of Hanuman myth. New storyline and direction was good and modern and actions more realistic. Could/should have married it up with old storyline better. After all it is a legend that survived hundreds of years for a reason. If the writers had wanted personal credit and originality..they should have came up with their own original story. Overall made me miss the childhood series more.
