Great cinematography and good costumes. The plot line is so confusing! I went with 4 friends and NONE of us understood what we watched for 3 hours. Only a few people had names. Many of the characters looked so similar it was hard to follow. A baby was stolen at the beginning. A woman and her new husband had a 2 year old toddler named Sampson (was it the same baby?). They left the boy with Marigold a rebellious teen/hooker to make a deal with 2 bad brothers who knew who she was. The deal didn't happen, husband killed and who knows what happened with the woman? Marigold escaped with the toddler (and Kevin Costner who seemed to sense she was in danger). Then, she left the toddler behind to a family in a random village. She may or may not have run off with a stranger. We didn't see either one of them leave.
There is a featured indigenous tribe with a peaceful leader, and 3 sons. One son is angry and wants to kill. One son is a peaceful tribesman and the 3rd is a young boy who speaks English which was referred to as the tongue of his original family. Was he the baby stolen at the beginning of the movie??
We view different territories with a wagon train, and then another train of people being escorted by the US government to a fort from their demolished village. There were some snarky one-liners mixed in. The last few minutes consisted of numerous lightning-fast clips of the next movie. I am confused, but will see Chapter 2 with the hope that some things will be clarified.
