I loved this movie. I loved everything about it, except the non-colonel. What a piece of garbage. I wonder if it may have made a difference in the length of Elvis’ life, had he been able to live out his dreams of becoming a serious actor. We’ll never know. I’m not much of a writer, but here are my thoughts:
1. I’ve seen a few of the things Austin Butler has been in prior to Elvis, and he’s really a pretty fine actor. However, this part I believe he was meant to play. I’ve seen numerous interviews where he talks about his preparation for this part, and it’s obvious he took it very seriously. Wow… really beautiful work, Mr Butler. I’ll be looking forward to your next projects.
2. The music, all of it, is just mesmerizing. I have the soundtrack, and I’m even beginning to ‘sing’ along with the rappers … this coming from a 78 year old Elvis fan.
3. I don’t know much about editing but I just don’t find anything weird about the way the scenes are put together, or how they go from one thing to another, and back again. And, it’s all beautiful!
4. I don’t know much about the other actors, except that they all were terrific … I really loved Helen Thomson as Elvis’ mother, and of course Olivia DeJonge as Prisella. It was hard to still like Tom Hanks, after the horrible character he played. Of course I guess it wouldn’t have been the same movie without the non-colonel.
I hope if you haven’t seen Elvis in the theater, that you will before it is no longer showing. It’s worth it!
