Keith Gordon – Google

I watched X and Pearl which were excellent, so was really wanting to see this. It was O.K, but had many flaws. It started brilliantly, with ZZ Top 'Gimme all your loving', and 80's Hollywood landscape, but it was really Motley Crew. W.,A.S.P, Ratt, etc that were big in that area at that time, not ZZ Top. Then we get a black video store assistant wearing a Judas Priest T-Shirt and a sawn off denim with studs, really? He would have been one in a million in the whole country, let alone Hollywood. What is this with having to have a black actor in your film, even if they are totally miscasts? The next flaw was the police wheeling out a murdered person on a gurney into the street, and lifting up the white sheet to show everyone his injuries. It was a messy film, with many unbelievable scenes and over the top acting, and never really seemed to go anywhere. Overall I still quite enjoyed it, mainly because it was set in the 80's, and I suppose it got better as the end approached, but it was not as good as I expected it to be. Just as a footnote, it would have been so much more realistic to have had the black video shop guy swapped over with the knife welding mugger, but hey, that would have been too politically incorrect.

A word of warning. The whole point of the film is why did he do it?, and how will they get out? You will be bitterly disappointed at the end, and will wish you never wasted your time. I can tell you now, he just puts a ladder down and they climb out, then the last scene is them sitting having dinner smiling and happy, no explanation as to why he did it, or how they reacted as soon as they saw him again. Plus an unrelated scene with a mother and daughter is never explained either. It could have been really good, but the ending will get you mad. Sorry for the spoiler, but believe me, it is for your own good.

As you probably know by now, this film has won the highest awards, even over 1917, well if you go and see it you will know why, because it is outstanding it every way. The whole shebang is covered, the acting, the plot, this producer writer or whoever he is, covers the lot, you are griped from the very beginning to the end, and you will leave the cinema knowing you have seen a great movie. I will not tell you anything at all about this film, it is better that you see it cold. This is a 5 star film, and for once, actually deserved all the accolade that it was given. The only downside is that is is subtitled, but the film is so awesome, that it is a slight detraction that will never really bother you.

Overall a good film, taken for what it is, an excuse to show some sexy scenes for men to get off on, nothing OTT, but enough for a some titillation. If you love the 60's, there are lots of iconic scenes of the Kings Road area, the fashions, the cars etc, all there in abundance, along with the 'star' car of the film the E-Type Jag, the hottest car of the day. The light-hearted vibe of the film changes at the end, when..SPOILER ALERT!!!........All the sex scenes were in fact fantasised by the main man, and the reality, was that he had a mundane job delivering fresh meat for a bullying boss. The sad truth of life, men fantasise, while women get from the few 'chosen men' deemed 'worthy'.

This is a good film, just like one reviewer said, it is very realistic, and the 'sitter' is so evil that you will genuinely want her to die a sordid death. It will keep you gripped until the end.The motive the sitter has for all her anger is not very clear, a little like the ending, but all in all, it is well acted, and you will want to watch it to the end, just don't watch the 'hamster' scene, if you are an animal lover like myself.
