This series 100% exceeds my expectations. Casting and characterisation is good and the story is quite well developed. The toxic rivalry between Danny and Johnny lives on through 30+ years. But somehow, the table had been turned. In adulthood, Danny's the big man, and Johnny's the little guy.
However unlike the 80s movies the writing is more balanced. Characteristic of movies today there are no clear lines between bad guy and good guy. Everyone has their share of stories.
That's why it's sometimes frustrating when we as the viewers can understand both of their point of view, but the characters refuse to communicate. Sometimes the writers may unrealistically substitute dialogue/ communication with fight scenes. But I guess that's expected from Karate Kid universe.
What the series lack however is the deep look into the japanese philosophy of Karate as was taught by Mr Miyagi in the movies.
Overall good fun for a series. Would recommend for light entertainment.Would also advise to watch Karate Kid 1 and 2 before watching the series to get the sense of nostalgia the writers are trying to evoke.
