This was bad. The first 20 minutes are easily the best of the film, the rest is similar to an bad LSD trip. It isn't the violence, it's just devoid of most any character build. The Northman is pissed, always, and cemented in only that. There are a few scenes that show some ability to act but few, very few. I saw a few reviews calling it historically accurate, maybe the setting, but that's it. There is no history in a child fleeing to Russia just to turn around and kill his uncle in Iceland years later. A retelling of an old legend? Sure. This was more of a tragic play put on a movie screen, devoid of any emotion but rage.
