(Slight Spoilers) To begin with the good aspects of the film, it is visually stunning and scenes by themselves would've been good as isolated storylines. I particularly enjoyed the scenes that featured the magical creatures such as the snail and the fairy- they were laughable but weird in the RIGHT way, although i can't say the same for the rest of the film. As good as these scenes were, they just didn't fit in with the rest of this story, which confused myself and most of the audience in the cinema as it didn't line up with the original narrative we were presented with at first. The start of the film seemed promising, but I was quickly let down.
Unfortunately there are more negatives than positives. Originally, it shocked me that this film was a PG due to some VERY disturbing scenes that even made me slightly uncomfortable (a hanging scene, a scene where pinocchio burns his legs off, a drowning scene and a weird transformation scene that looked like it hurt.) I would not reccomend this film for any small children, as I can see it being nightmare inducing and frightening for a younger audience. I watched this film in english, and although I'm aware that the original was in Italian the English language audio was appalling. The voice actors almost didn't seem fluent in English as some scenes felt awkward and too formal. Italian accents seemed over exaggerated and although I'm not aware if the voice actors were actually Italian, if they weren't then the voices could be seen as offensive to actual Italian people. I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt and think that it was better in the original language, but overall I would not recommend this film.
To summarise, this film seemed beautiful at first, the sets were nice, some scenes made me laugh (although im not sure if that's due to the awkward acting or genuine humour) and the actors did okay. Its unfortunate that I ended up bored by the end of it, and upon talking to other people in the cinema they seemed to agree that it was boring and unenjoyable, even reccomending staff to not watch it.
