Now, I have to preface this review by stating that I do not like Rap or Hip Hop. I never have. The closest I've ever gotten is listening to The Beastie Boys in my late teens / early twenties.
Having stated that, I love this album. It turns out I just don't care about the subject matter of 99.9% of other albums in the genre. Who would have ever thought there would one day be RPG Hip Hop.
The tracks vary from talking about starting to play RPGs (World's Best RPG) to game mechanics (Rage, Countercharm, Critical Hit) and the story of a character's life (The Ballad of Beauregard the Badly Burned Bard). Yahzick has incredible language skills, both in his ability to write intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics and to deliver them with rapid-fire precision.
You don't have to be a geek or gamer (old-school or new) to listen to these tracks. The pure skill Yahzick displays is enough reason to give this album a try. Even if you don't normally listen to this genre, give it a listen, you might surprise yourself. I know I did.
