I study film and media production and have to say this is one of the worst horror films I have ever watched. I have watched countless horror films and studied several cinematic masterpieces, but this film is not it. Spoiler warning! The slow burn is agonizing and some people even left because this film was so bad in the theater. The plot doesn’t move along and there are unnecessary scenes in the main characters plot line. None of these visions directly correlate to her story. The transitions between scenes are so abrupt and do not do the other films in this franchise justice. The movie starts off mimicking the other films production and shooting style, then after 30 minutes it’s just a regular blockbuster horror. There are only a few “unfortunate” and “forewarning” deaths in this movie, straying from the style of the others ones as well. There are things in this movie that don’t make sense either plot wise. In the original, the mother is a jackal, but in this film she is not and the “father” is one. It doesn’t line up whatsoever. Also a nun that knows about the antichrist sacrifices herself to someone else rather than the mother who is going to carry the antichrist in her stomach. Additionally, there are no Easter eggs of sorts (upside down cross shadows, forewarning colors, death predictions or connections) there is only a couple toward the end. The scenes of birth and rape are way too graphic and depicted when they don’t have a lot of relevance until the very end of the film when the birth is actually taking place. The scenes are just depicted as gross and detailed as possible, leaving the audience disgusted rather than scared or intrigued. The jumpscares are very predictable and not a single one got anyone who was in the theater watching this film. The music is loud and doesn’t seem to help the plot or create suspense. It just seems like it was added in at the end as a last minute decision. The last couple minutes of the film are left open ended and do not correlate with the original film series at all. The mother should be dead jackal, the other girl is absolutely irrelevant the whole film, and the female antichrist doesn’t even exist either. This film is a waste of time if you are a true suspense, gut-wrenching horror fan. Save your money and your time or just wait till it’s free somewhere to watch. It definitely could’ve been done a lot better and it was extremely disappointing to see how badly this film flopped since the trailer made it seem completely different (and actually looked decent) than what the film truly came to be.
