I enjoyed watching this film. Shahrukh Khan's acting was very good because he showed a great deal of restraint and his transformation from a compassionate lover to Channd Ashok (evil Ashok) was subtle but laid a strong impact. Watching his character from the beginning did bring some predictability to his character arc because right in the first scene, as a child, Ashok was told by his father that the sword thirsts for one thing only---- blood. But he manages to fish the sword out from the river into which his father had discarded the sword. After that his journey was quite adventurous. One does realize that being a prince and having the ambition to become king is a slippery slope for Ashok.
Overall it was a very good film. If you are expecting CGI and VFX, then you will be disappointed. The action sequences are good but this film doesn't have all those snazzy things that one would like to watch in today's Baahubali or Magadheera. This film is not so much as an action film as it is about the arc of Ashok's journey. Its a character-driven film about an individual's spiritual journey. It is much more than a romantic flick. Loved the locations, the songs and Kareena's eyes!
