All the bright places by Jennifer Niven is one of those books that’s brilliantly written. The plot was well conceived and the author’s note at the end made the story more heart touching and undying.

It follows the story of a boy called Theodore Finch and a girl named Violet Markey. Violet was trying to suicide and Finch was also in the school Bell Tower with same intentions but he saved her. That was their first meeting. This story is basically about the friendship and love between these two teens and I loved how Finch treats Violet. Plus, this book elaborates on how these characters deal with their own losses in their personal lives. Violet recently lost her sister due to a car accident so she’s in such a huge heartbreak. Finch has suicidal impulses and fascinated by death. He’s suffering from a mental illness as well. Ultraviolet- Finch often call her in this name. He was so lovely and funny and the only one who was able to bring a true smile on Violet’s face, which I can’t express in my words.
“ You are all the colors in one, at full brightness.”
They both bond over a school project where they have to visit beautiful places in their town and their adventures lead them to falling in love. Finch helps Violet to recover her pain but Violet doesn’t see how much help Finch needs. He’s always at his best behaviors with Violet but she never sees how much Finch is hurting and suffering inside. Situations are nicely described throughout the book and I should say that this novel is funny and really emotional at the same time. The part I like most is when Finch bought tulips and roses and many other flowers to Violet in winter and her reaction to his present!!
It’s up to you to find out the end and it’s not what I expected of course.
I strongly recommend this novel for everyone, specially for young adults. Many teen novels touch on similar themes, but few do it so memorably. Read it!!
