A film by H S Rawail has a powerful storyline but could not reach to the expectations despite stellar performance by Dilip Kumar, Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar, Vyajanthimala, Jayant and Ulhas and evergreen music of Naushad. The direction could have been better given the expertise of Rawail. Sets look gorgeous and little detached from the real life the then Benaras. It could not hit at the box office. Rawail is a seasoned film maker and has hits like Mere Mahboob, Laila Majnu, Patanga, Mehboob ki mehandi to his credit. A bit disappointed to see this movie. From these movies onwards Dlip Kumar reduced his movies ofcourse Shakti was his dazzling performance. But he is an all time great artist. There is no doubt about this.

All time classic and one of the greatest movies of Indian Cinema. Unparalleled direction, acting, dialogues, music. It's one of best performances of Tragedy King Dilip Kumar. Must see movie. 100 times.

निहायत ही घटिया फिल्म। संवाद अभिनय निर्देशन सब निम्न स्तर का। बंगला जैसी मधुर भाषा का अपमान। अनीस बज्मी ने कैसे स्वीकार की यह फिल्म।

The film could have thrown a powerful message against the atrocities on downtrodden, evil and dark side of casteism and against the women liberty. But instead of mobilizing the mass against the social stigma, it reduced to muscle flexing scenes of settling personal scores. The movie failex to generate the anger against the exploitation of the lower caste. The police and law was shown as the puppets in the hands of the powerful lobby. Despite the impressive performance of John, Sharvari the film as a whole could not pose the million dollar question as who is responsible for all these and how it will be eradicated. I think the director has no answer to this. On the whole movie can be watched once for its action.

इससे नीचे की rating मुश्किल थी। सारे 7 protagonists अपने dark past को लेकर बैठते हैं। पूरी फिल्म में शराब चालू रही है। यह समाज के‌ ऐसे तबके के लोग हैं जिन्हें आम आदमी की रोजमर्रा तकलीफों से कोई मतलब नहीं है। दोहरी जिंदगी जीने वाले ये चंद तथाकथित रईस लोगों के लिए inspiration नहीं हैं। पर आपस में एक दूसरे की बखिया उधड़ने में लगे हैं। मानवीय मूल्यों को ताक पर रख कर ये चरित्र समाज में एक प्रश्नचिन्ह छोड़ते हैं कि high society के लोग क्या ऐसे होते हैं। अफसोस है इस फिल्म पर जो निहायत ही बकवास श्रैणी में आती है।

गैंग्स ऑफ वासेपुर आपसी दुश्मनी के गैंग वार को दिखाती है जिसमें तात्कालीन कानून और राजनीतिक व्यवस्था के खोखलेपन की धज्जियां उड़ती दिखाई दीं। पर समाज में व्याप्त शोषण, गरीबों पर ज़ुल्म चाहे वह किसी धर्म का हो इसको दिखाने में फिल्म असफल रही है। दर्शक केवल एक फिल्म नहीं देखता पर समाज की उस वक्त की व्यवस्था, जनता के संघर्ष और उसके निदान को भी देखने का प्रयास करता है। फिल्म मे गति है, पृष्ठभूमि है, अभिनय है और निर्देशन है। पर फिल्म में हिंसा को प्रथम पुरस्कार मिलना चाहिए क्योंकि फिल्म को देखने का आइना हिंसा ही है जो बहुत ज्यादा दिखाई गई है‌

हर फिल्म का एक मकसद होता है मैसेज होता है। जब आप इन दोनों में नाकामयाब हो तो जितने बड़े कलाकार ले लो फिल्म को पिटना ही है। ये वो काल्की नहीं हैं जिन्होंने इतनी यादगार फिल्में दी हैं। जरूरी यह नहीं कि आप कितना अपने आप को एक अच्छा निर्देशक दिखाने का प्रयास करते हो। जरूरी है कि लोग आपको एक अच्छा निर्देशक समझें।

ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य के काल‌ में सामंती समाज की वर्ण, धर्म और रूढ़िवादी प्रथा में बंटी, प्रगति विरोधी के विचारों के खिलाफ यह फिल्म सुधारवादी आंदोलन को दर्शाती है। मूल में यह महिलाओं पर यौन अत्याचारों और समाज के अंधविश्वास के खिलाफ प्रतिबिंबद फिल्म है। फिल्म के मजबूत पक्ष इसकी editing, screen play और‌ संवाद हैं। पर‌ घटना सही लगते हुए ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य ने अपने फायदे के लिए इस्तेमाल नहीं किया और आश्चर्य है कि नायक ने हुकूमत के खिलाफ कम पर राजा के खिलाफ ज्यादा लिखा।
