It was pretty close to the original book which was good and nostalgic but as a stand alone movie, it wasn’t very good. I sort of think Netflix could have made this a series show instead to give us more time to connect with the world and characters. They could have extended the storyline more and gave us more time in the lead up and the development of friendships between people. The acting was hit or miss, some were good but others not so much. They also had weird moments of comedy in serious moments which I don’t think they played out very well. It came off more cringy than funny. The visuals were overall not bad but I actually thought they would make the “Pretties” look more otherworldly, but they ended up just going for that trending tiktok filter look. Overall this just reminds me of every other bad dystopian teen movie. I had high hopes seeing that I’ve waited over 10 years for a live action version of the books but it just wasn’t good or done well.
