The Newsreader was a total joy and such a refreshing change from all the dark crime dramas currently on our TV screens. I've seen a few reviews saying it started slowly but I disagree. I was hooked from the very beginning. I hadn't intended to binge watch as I didn't want it to end but just couldn't help myself. And talking of the ending, it was just perfect!
There was so much to love about this all too short series. I found it interesting and sometimes amusing to see the struggles with the lack of technology back in the mid eighties and the lengths they went to to get the stories on air. I also enjoyed the reporting of the real events of 1986 and felt they handled difficult subjects sensitively.
The acting from the entire cast was incredible and it had such a great mix of characters, some lovable and some not particularly likeable but they all had an essential part to play. Another thing I especially liked was how the storylines didn't always take a predictible path which is so often the case in TV dramas.
I would give if 6 stars if I could.
Can't wait for Series 2!
