It does an excellent job at portraying the emptiness, monotony and surreal disconnect experienced by young millennials and gen z-ers. I believe it actually challenges the idea of being a voyeur because we can’t quite enjoy it, can’t quite immerse ourselves in it - what critics call a flaw but what I found to be a brilliant challenge to the entire principle of shows like this - “we don’t get them, they drink and party, let’s watch them suffer and chastise,” etc.
The dulling voiceover and endless plot lines that never quite go deep enough, the absence of any real feeling evoked, this is what they live. This show makes us live it too.
