It's kind of a hip Cagney and Lacey with an outstanding performance by Gabrielle Union as one of the leads. It's not so much the stories that grab you as it is the interactions between and among Union and her co-star Jessica Alba, and the solid supporting cast, especially Ernie Hudson and John Salley that define the show.

While the legendary Ellen Burstyn is wonderful, Vanessa Kirby ownes the film. Her performance is extraordinary.

I watched because of his work on Black Klansmann. Unfortunately he didn't have Spike Lee with him on this film. He was the victim of a very bad script. The question is: did he read the script before he took the job? It was unrealistic and boring at the very same time. Unrealistic in that no one could survive all those shots, hits, falls and punches and still survive. It was boring in that, after a while, we just didn't care about him or anything or anyone else in the film.
