19 episodes of an excellent story line, of which I particularly enjoyed the exploration of greed and power, and the role of the historian. It was also enjoyable to see the beautiful costuming of Prince Dowon and the lovely sets, especially the painted screens in each bedroom. The romance felt balanced and wasn’t rushed, which was fun since so many western films rush relationships and miss the romance of holding hands and the first kiss. But I must say (*spoiler*) why oh why the “modern” ending in episode 20 that makes Prince Dowon look like a total looser? He can’t even sell 12 books!?! And after 3 years of freedom he hasn’t yet proposed and he doesn’t see his girlfriend except once a month? What a pitiful conclusion for such a noble character. And what about poor Granny? All of her 20 years of hard work went down the drain. Episode 20 seemed rushed and not well considered in comparison with the excellence and intelligence of the other 19 episodes. I rewrote episode 20 in my mind so that I could justify the 20+ hours I spent in front of my television watching this show!
