My first book by this author, and I will say that I left confused, but wanting more of her writing. The characters are interesting, but some of the choices for plot are serious gaps in logic that I’m finding hard to understand after finishing.
** Plot Specific Spoilers below **
I’m all for an unreliable narrator, but I’ve never been this directly deceived by the narrator for the sole purpose of resolving the plot. I can forgive Dr. Hale for jumping to murder as her only option to get out of blackmail, I can excuse that leap in logical action for her character, but it’s harder to accept that Tricia was writing “herself” a specific, deceptive narrative in her head for the whole book unless if it was just a plot device. Regardless, this book kept me hooked and I listened to it as an audiobook which had great acting as well. I was convinced the voice actor was using the same voice for Ethan and EJ up until the end, and it made the twists even better.
