I simply do not understand why the professional reviewers disliked this show so much! As many have mentioned, this movie embodies what a rom-com should be - sweet and lovable leads and cast, picturesque and surreal situations and locations (duh, it's a fantasy!), and a predictable storyline.
What made this movie especially wonderful was that there wasn't really anyone to hate (i.e. antagonists were apparently in very short supply in Lavania and New York) - in short, you'd be rooting for the both of them from the get-go, with very little going against the couple. Such a fantastical situation, but that's what a rom-com's all about isn't it?
One small thing that irked me a little though, was how non-typical Lavania was - everyone had their own accents (I heard variations of posh and cockney, even!), were of 1001 shades of skin, and were so, so diverse! It kinda broke the fantasy of a "foreign land placed on the main trade routes" - historically, these lands were nothing like this, but hey - again! I've got to remind myself that this was a rom-com set in a surreal, perfect world.
All-in-all, you'd be silly to miss this movie if you love rom-coms! It's a 5/5 stars for me - a must-watch.
